eek #95 Letter & Pictures

Time for another email.
This week went by slow adjusting to a new companion but he is great. Just takes a while to get used to the newness. His name is Elder Powell and he is from St. George, UT. Been out for 6 months and this is his second area.

This week was crazy with the baptism Tuesday and then we had a lot of poetical lessons that all fell through in the second half of the week. Bummer but I learned from it. We have at least 10 already planned for this week so I will better prepare for those lessons and make sure they are confirmed.

But here's how it went as a whole:
5-29-17
"We've come a long way from we began. Oh, Ill tell you all about it when I see you again!" Transfer calls came today and I am staying but Elder Stewart is leaving. Elder Hunt and Fowles got a transfer board screen shot yesterday and hinted to me leaving and being a zone leader so I was skeptical but that is not the case. I did get released from being a district leader though so now I don't know what to do with myself. When ever I was bored or had time to think I either thought about the district or investigators. Mostly district though so now my mind is empty. Its weird and going got take time to get used to. We did laundry in the morning and then we went as a district to tour a Navy Ship docked here on Staten Island for Memorial Day and that was super cool. Then went to the Spanish chapel and everyone brought food to eat and hangout all afternoon. Then we went to correlation at the Fackrell's home, our ward mission leader and bishop's home. Ward mission leader is the bishop's father. They had a BBQ afterwards and then Elder Stewart needed to get a few things done before he packs so we went and did those things and ended by visiting Brother Colbert to give him to bad news. We also told James and he was very bummed too. It was a memorable day today and the district was awesome. Couldn't have asked for anything more from them as they gave it their all. I will sure miss them but look forward to the new missionaries to the area and my new companion.

"Cause we gonna celebrate your party with you, come on now." Happy 20 month mark on the mission! Only 4 more to go... today was a very exciting day overall. We had our morning and Elder Stewart packed all morning and then we headed off to transfers. We got there a little early and talked with everyone and then found out our new companions. Elder Stewart went to Plainview and I got Elder Powell which is an elder that came out with Elder Stewart. He is really awesome and funny enough is we both discussed how this will only be a 1 transfer companionship as he said President wants him to train next transfer and President said he wants me in a leadership position soon again. He's just giving me a "break" to get some "rest" right now. Those are his exact words too. But we are going to make the most of this. We went to eat lunch since we didn't have to go to the leadership meeting and then helped load luggage for departing missionaries. Said goodbye to my trainer, Elder Reese, and headed home. We got here and unloaded his stuff and put it away a little. Had dinner and then went to the church to Skype James for his baptism. We got to talk briefly before and then afterwards as well. During that time Elder Powell and I talked about the area and the investigators. James got baptized and confirmed there, not sure why on the confirmation as I thought we planned to do it here but that didn't happen. But it was weird as my mom, bro and sis were at the baptism and I saw them. It was weird. Then it was time to head home but James was super excited and pumped.

"I'm hooked on a feeling! I'm high on believing, that you're in love with me. Yeah, I'm hooked on a feeling!" Today was a pretty great day. We had our usual morning of studies and lunch. Went and bought a few things for food now that we have money and took it home. Went to the church and called and messaged a lot of potentials and new investigators to set up lessons but not many answered or said a time to come by. Then we tried to go to a lesson but they weren't home so we did 2 look ups around the area and went to eat dinner. Went back to that street and knocked for 2 hours with a lot of success actually. We had 4 return appointments and taught 2 lessons so we got 2 new Investigators tonight. Pretty great and then tried contacting a referral but not home. Went to the church and got a few things on the iPad and went home.
6-1-17
"What, just happened?" Today was a pretty normal day again. We had our morning of studies and I finished the Book of Mormon challenge finally. The housing couple came by to check on the apartment just before we went to a lesson but they weren't home and then tried looking up a potential investigator. They weren't home either so we ate lunch and went to district meeting with the 11 missionary district! And it was very weird for me as I have been the one running them since last June so I didn't know what to do with my self the entire time. Afterwards we went to the church to start weekly planning but only got through transfer goals before going to dinner at Chipotle. Went knocking on Lockman Ave again and found a few potentials and got close on a new investigator but she was tough to set a return appointment with so we just need to set a return appointment and she will become a new investigator. Tried the referral again but no luck, again. And tried a potential but found out he died a week ago. That was a bit of a shocker to find out so we gave our condolences and tried teaching about the afterlife but she wasn't too interested in learning more. Headed home after that.
6-2-17
"Drink your prune juice grandma!" Today was a pretty ok day as all our lessons fell through and none of our look ups were home. We had the morning and went to a lesson but not home. Tried calling but nothing, then tried a look up nearby and they said to come back later but not sure when. Then went to look up 2 members not home and went to our lesson but they were leaving for an appointment and rescheduled to Tuesday at the same time. So we went and did weekly planning and talked about the pool we are working in. Then ate dinner and went to look up both our referrals and both didn't answer. Went to the church to send a few things and that ended our night as traffic was terrible and took forever to get anywhere tonight. So much potential today and none of it happened. Hard day.
6-3-17
"Well I bought a car, turned out to be an alien robot. Who knew?" Another day of lessons falling through. We had 3 more today and a lot of look ups around them. That was most our afternoon with a little knocking and then after dinner, went to a lesson but didn't happen so we went knocking for a bit with not as much success this time. Went to the church to contact investigators about church and then visited Howard and introduced elder Powell to him. Fun day, eh.
6-4-17
"We must have knocked a thousand times, to tell you everything our church does." Church day and I didn't have to go to ward council today as I'm not a district leader anymore! So we went to church and had no one attend sadly. Then went to a lesson after church but not home. Said he would be home later then so we tried later. Mean while we went and got Elder Powell's iPad as he forgot it and did a look up nearby. Had dinner and then went to a lesson with a. Family we met but they weren't available for us so they rescheduled to later this week and went to visit that lesson from earlier but they weren't home yet. Went to do a former look up and left a note there. Came back and he was still not home in time before we had to go in for the night. These lessons aren't working out but there are so many of them you would think one would!

So James got baptized! And confirmed! That's exciting and still haven't seen him yet. He is taking his time getting here as he stopped by his parents house on the way here to spend time with them and his wife. We hope to go to the temple on the 17th but if he doesn't get back soon, it will be the 24th. Then Harold didn't come to church and I thought he wouldn't as he was saying how he can't come every week and he said that a lot last week so I'm pretty sure he knew he had something going on and just didn't want to tell us straightforward. That's our investigators for now. But like I said, we have like 10 lessons scheduled already for this week and most are still potential investigators.

Hope everyone has a great week and I will talk to you when I do. ✌️
