Week # 97 Letter & Pictures

Hello everyone! So this week's email is coming from a smartphone so don't expect it to be exactly like before but I will do my best to keep it as similar as possible.

So with that being said, here's how the week went:

6-12-17
"He's back..." Ok, what a long day. First off it went by slow, second is we got home at 10:28. Yeah, I know. But there's a good reason. And I will get to that later. To start off this wonderful day, we had laundry and emails, lunch, emails. The usual. Then went to the Spanish chapel and played more volleyball today and didn't have correlation but went to the English chapel for a lesson with the family history guy but he never showed up. Funny he shows up for family history and gives full attention but doesn't show up for us. So we waited and then James was supposed to come right after his lesson but ended up being an hour late as he didn't know Staten Island didn't have a Chik-Fil-A but he had to drive to New Jersey for it. So took longer than expected and then James and his wife Berkley showed up. I don't think I've mentioned this yet or maybe I did briefly earlier but I know Berkley from high school. We graduated together and lived in Draper up until now. So that was a reunion of itself and then it was a reunion with James. I missed him:) and it was a joyous reunion of conversation and answering questions I had. We did end with talking about starting family history so we can go to the temple soon and we are meeting tomorrow to continue talking. But I missed him.

6-13-17
"I'm melting! I'm melting!" It was hot today. But we had district meeting today and had the Zone Leaders join us. They gave a workshop on the use of technology and I got to say they did a good job preparing us for it and the importance of using it righteously. I walked out excited for it. Then we went to a lesson of a referral from the spa sister's but the person wasn't home. So we met James at Moes Southwestern Grill for a late lunch, 3 pm and talked for a bit. We talked a lot about temples and talking about getting the priesthood to then be able to go to the temple. Went to the church for a few min and then went to another lesson but didn't happen. So we went to look up some investigators on Lockman Ave and ended up teaching Oliver. He had lots of questions about the Book of Mormon and so that's what we talked about and he was satisfied. Then finished look ups around there and also a little bit of knocking. That ended our night.

6-14-17
"This is not a game, no. Nobody can save you. Spent up all your Change and now your turn is done." More of a boring day today but we accomplished a lot. We had the usual morning and then went to the church to watch some videos before mega zone this Friday and found out we can download them so we downloaded them and sent them all to the district. Went to the store and bought a few things and visited some potentials. Not home as it is the afternoon and made some calls. Had dinner and went to pick up Brother Leguillou for Harold's lesson. Drove all the way down and taught for a long time again. No quiet time for him. But then we headed home and dropped off Brother Leguillou.

6-15-17
"Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do." Well, last day with the iPad. And we spent some time transferring the rest of the docs over to email or flash drive that were stuff we use everyday. We had weekly Planning in the afternoon and also got a car wash for Mega Zone tomorrow. Did that computer stuff in between and went to do look ups till dinner. Had dinner at home and was supposed to meet James at the church but Berkley wasn't feeling well so we rescheduled to tomorrow and went to our lesson which didn't happen. So we spent the night doing look ups around our home of potentials, formers, and less actives. No success with any. We found out who still lived there and who doesn't though so that's a plus.

6-16-17
"Yeah, you might have missed a few things while you were doing time as a popsicle." Mega Zone Conference today and it was a little different from usual conferences we've had before. We got smartphones at this one for one and gave up our iPad for a testing phase the missionary department is trying out on us. That was the afternoon and the morning was just more spiritual workshops to inspire us to use the devices righteously. Then spent the afternoon setting them up and finished with the departing testimonies which I realized I give mine in 2 mega zones. Afterwards, President talked to the Staten island district and our zone leaders about the splitting areas to make it work which it turns out there was a lot of misunderstanding and miscommunication so everything good about it stayed and the bad actually isn't happening. So we were good but took an hour to work out other details. Went straight to the church after that and continued setting up the devices until James and Berkley got there. They ended our night with feeding us pizza and talking about family history.

6-17-17
"Dont go guys, I called the pizza dude!" Today was a slower day but it was successful. We started off with trying to go to a potential lesson that didn't end up happening on Lockman Ave so we did a few look ups. Went to the church next and met James there with Berkley and they got started on family history. After an hour with the family history consultant and a few calls to relatives later, he has 2 names to take to the temple! Still working on priesthood interview though so that is what is holding us back. Bishop isn't returning calls or texts which is super frustrating. Then we talked for a few min afterwards and ate lunch. Did some more look ups and then went knocking for a little over 2 hours. Found no new investigators but did find a few potentials and a referral for Spanish missionaries. Then went to a potential lesson around our apartment but wasn't a good time so we rescheduled to tomorrow night. Went to the church to get a few things downloaded over wifi and called investigators to remind about church. That ended our night.

6-18-17
"Do your job." Today was a good day as Harold came to church so we were able to get him there but he is not really progressing as he isn't in the right mindset. He thinks it is just an initiative ceramony into the church and he can do that to any church. Ours is just another church to join. No matter how many times we teach restoration or priesthood or Book of Mormon or anything, it doesn't get to his head. So we don't know what to do with him. But other than that, we had church and hung around while James got interviewed by bishop. They took too long as we had to go to a lesson. The person we were looking for was not there but talked to the mom who said we could come by Tuesday night to teach. Ate a really late lunch that mixed with dinner actually and then went to a few more potential lessons that didn't happen and then we looked up a few people and got no answers or not interested anymore so we dropped a lot of people tonight. So no new investigators but cleaned up area book a lot.

James is back and what an experience it has been this week with him. Met 4 times this week and got him temple names, but didn't get the priesthood so we won't be going to the temple this Saturday but hopefully next Saturday we can! Harold you read about in Sunday's journal. He just doesn't have the right mindset in all of this and no matter what we try, it goes right over his head and doesn't get it. Very veery frustrating. And then we didn't get any new investigators this week and can't get a hold of anyone we already have in area book. Any missionary knows the frustration of this situation. But we still go out and try.

After that depressing sentence, how about some pictures. Hopefully these work on the new phone and stuff.

And to give my opinion on the new smartphone, it has potential. I hate the interface on this phone, which is a Samsung J3. If any one from home has heard of this phone, know to not buy it. Not worth the money. Just buy an iPhone or galaxy and it will be worth every penny. The camera on this phone is junk, the keyboard mistyped every other word and I've used 3 different keyboards on this phone mixing and matching, can't edit photos with MaaS 360 restricting this phone to a basic slide keyboard phone with data, and the list goes on and on. Everyday it grows but like I said, it has potential as it fulfills what I NEED it to. Everything else is just for fun and games while it does fulfill what I need. The interface is what I dislike most though. Slow, buggy, confusing, complicated, stupid, etc. I've always known I like Apple but this just makes me miss my iPad even more. And I had a beta software on that thing. So in the end, this is great for the purpose it is here for, but it frustrates me.

See you all next week, peace. ✌️
