Week #90 Letter & Pictures

What's happenin bro?

So this week was pretty much a normal week except for the few small things. One was the crazy lightning storm that happened Friday night. Another is the new way to knock doors the mission taught us. Yeah, so look for those in summaries of the Day. Oh yeah, and welcome to week 82.

"I don't get art. What's to get about it?" Preparation day! And we had a pretty relaxing one at that. We did our laundry in the morning and shopped. Went to the church and emailed for a bit and got the pictures off the camera. Cleaned it out a little bit and ate lunch. Emailed some more before going to the Spanish chapel to play basketball until we had to go to our correlation meeting. Had it at Costco again and that is nice as our ward mission leaders buys us dinner. Then we went to the church and sent off our stuff on Facebook and tried to set up lessons for the week before going to Kendall's. We hadn't been to his home in like a month so he had lots of questions about the Book of Mormon and we talked about them and then he fed us hamburgers for dinner. He took up until the end of the night for us.

"Its Saturday night and we takin Hogwarts. Don't believe me? Just watch!" Today was a meeting day of mega zone conference. It was interesting as we learned about door approaches and street contacting. A door salesman that's a member on Long Island taught a zone how he does it and how to apply it to missionary work and then they taught the mission. It is pretty helpful and different so it will take time to get used to but I can see it working very well. Then we drove home in traffic and met Brother Colbert for dinner at Flaming Grill Buffet and got to have a. Nice dinner with him. Then went to confirm our lessons for tomorrow at the church and went to visit a member but they weren't home. That ended our night.

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” Its a Wednesday and I'm ready for a nap. Well today was a pretty sweet day. We had Banjo in the morning and had a great lesson on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He committed to come to church this Sunday and understands the importance now we think since we moved his baptismal date back 2 weeks. Then had lunch and went to visit our referral we got and knocked the area. Went to teach Margaret but she was still at work so we agreed to try an hour later so we went knocking again and we were trying out the things we learned yesterday and it will definitely take time to get used to but it was fun to try. Messed up a ton but it was actually really fun. Went back to teach but she didn't come on at all. Found out later she was having bank issues and was in the middle of dealing with it so we called it good for the day to let her focus on those problems. So we ate a late dinner actually since she took up our dinner so we went to Wendy's near by. Then went to visit members we were asked to visit but they weren't home so we knocked around them. That finished up our night.

"I mended something!" We had district meeting this week and that started our day off. It was good and Sister Tew gave the workshop and then we ate lunch. Went to visit 2 members we were asked to visit and found out one passed away years ago and the other didn't answer. And they lived in the bottom of our area so we decided to spend the afternoon there and knocked a street nearby and found it to be super wealthy. No one answered really and those that did yelled through their door. Not interested. But we got to talk to a nice lady for the last door, she just wasn't interested. Went home and ate dinner and visit a new investigator but haven't taught him in a while. Wasn't home but his wife said he would be home tomorrow morning. Ended up talking to a really drunk man there as well and he got mad at us for praying wrong when he asked us to pray with him. Love drunk people. At least he was the nice drunk, the mean drunks are the ones you got to watch out for. Then visited our referral again and worked in the area some more. Referral wasn't home but talked to Jews. They weren't interested either. So that concluded our day of finding. We get to go again tomorrow:)

"I'm melting, I'm melting. I'm melting!"
"It's just a little rain, Donkey."
I was dying today from my allergies. It was bad today. But we got up and had our morning and went to visit the potential but they weren't home so we ate lunch and went back afterwards and still nothing. But we did get to teach a lesson during lunch. We ate at McDonalds and on our way out, these people asked us who we were so we started talking and turned into a small lesson and they said we could come by again in a few days. New Investigators! Then after we tried the second time, we went to the church to do weekly planning but that's when my allergies started up and when we got to the church, I spent the next hour getting my self together and trying everything to stop sneezing or having a runny nose. Took a long time but eventually calmed down probably because we were inside mostly because when we left to eat dinner, it happened again but not quite as bad. Then ate night we made the super long drive down to look up the member we tried to yesterday in hopes they would be home during prime time but nope. Not home. So we worked the area again a bit and then stopped by the grocery store on the way home to pick up a few things to last till Monday. We got payed today and ran out of food.

"Say you'll remember me, standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe. Say you'll see me again, even if it is just in your wildest dreams!" Ok, last night we had the craziest lightning storm I've ever experienced. And this tops the 50 mile hike storm.(Only family will get that one). It started at around 3 am and kept waking me up all the way until 5:30 when I finally went to sleep. Then we got up and met Brother Colbert for breakfast at IHOP. Then went to help with service for a member and her non member friend move some office supplies. She took us out to lunch at Subway to take home to eat. But because we were still full from breakfast, we saved it for dinner and took a quick nap instead as we were still so tired from being kept up all night. Then we tried to teach Margaret but she never responded to our lesson today and didn't answer so we did a few look ups in the building she was in and talked to a few people around until we went to go work on the progress record until dinner. Then went to try to contact our referral one last time and still no answer. Going to try calling a few more times and give it a few days before dropping. Knocked for a bit and then went to the church to finish the progress record and waited for a few minutes till the zone leaders got there to send it to me. Finished it at home. Fun night.

"What happened to you?"
"I joined the army."
Well, another month down. It's my 19 month mark today. And now it's starting to get a little real of the reality of going home. Anyways, today we had ward Council in the morning and almost got it right this week. Every week they always say something new to change and this week we went through our entire report without anything but then they wanted more right as we were walking out. It's become this game now of trying to please everybody! Difficult but important to learn as I'm sure lots of jobs will be this way. Then had church but none of our investigators came. We honestly thought that Banjo would come because he is so sure during the week but doesn't show up. Margaret we kinda knew she wasn't going to come as we didn't get to teach her this week. But we kept sending reminders of church. Then had our studies afterwards and calls. Dinner and then visited the family we met Friday during lunch and they were home but not a good time right now so we scheduled a lesson for Tuesday and gave them the Restoration Pamphlet to read before then. Went to try our referral again but no answer. Funny part is he lives in a Jewish community so all of the Jews just stare at us in white shirts walking by. Then went a few streets over to knock as we already knocked that street and that ended our night.

Margaret was not able to be taught this past week due to personal matters and then lost contact in the latter end of the week. So no update on her but Banjo has been taught the first 3 lessons now and still hasn't come to church! He reads and prays but hasn't come to church! Every time we go by and talk about it, he is excited to come and wants to. One difficulty is that he has no job so taking the bus to church is difficult to manage money like that but he said he would be ok to come this past week. And he is looking for a job currently so he could have been looking Sunday. Lots of different possibilities. But we are teaching him tonight after preparation day and we are going to talk about that with him. Then we found a few new Investigators this week. Rocky Balboa as he introduces himself and his wife, Shannon. Not sure if that's his real name but I remember it! Cool couple that are definitely from New York. Heavy accent. They are the ones we are teaching Tuesday night and tried to last night.

But that lightning storm was crazy. It had one after another for 3 hours. Ever 3-4 seconds it would strike and we could hear it instantly. Some were booming loud and one even rang my ears. So hard to sleep in which is why we were so tired the next day.

Love you all and hope everyone is having a great day. Smile, be happy, and help some one in need! That's the key to happiness. Enjoy your week!
